Executive Summary

Summary

Planning is regarded as the solution to the problem, no matter what the problem is. Keep in mind, planning is the identification of the amounts and timings of all the resources required to do individual maintenance jobs or projects. We spend lots of time planning our shutdown with endless detail. But, the secret ingredient is scheduling with follow-up. Scheduling is in fact the precise timing of thousands of resources to converge at the right location at the right time. Follow up makes sure the schedule happens and intervenes when something doesn’t. It means measuring, weighing, inspecting, challenging, fighting, and wooing all in the service of the shutdown. It means no assumptions.
