Executive Summary

Summary

Competence and ignorance go together. Give it some thought. Qualified and skilled young workers are extremely competent in certain aspects of the job, but blind to other aspects. This “out with the old and in with the new” is not a new transition. It has accelerated in the 90s and 2000s. How many millwrights make their tools anymore (wasn’t that how all the old timers got started?). Skills are being lost. This is more like the way species have become extinct. The important issue is not to cry for what is lost but instead try to learn and understand what needs to be done now for the future. Organizations must train personnel in skill sets that are considered essential for the success of the enterprise.
