Executive Summary

Summary

Going from reactive maintenance to proactive maintenance is something that all companies’ desire, but few companies’ management are actually willing to step up to the plate and pay for it. All it takes is a good solid preventive and predictive maintenance system (PM/PdM). But there is a logical problem with simply installing a system if you don\'t get extra and specific resources for the duration of the effort. Half the effectiveness of PM comes from basic maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubricating and tightening bolts. The other key to PM’s effectiveness in reducing breakdowns is that when deterioration is found by inspectors, it is fixed before it results in a breakdown (called corrective maintenance).
